All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Limestone/Freestone Co., Texas - History – Bi-County Stock Show of 1938 The Mexia Weekly Herald Newspaper June 3, 1938 SET TENTATIVE DATE FOR BI-STONE FAT STOCK SHOW; PRIZES TOTAL $370 A tentative date for the Bi-Stone Livestock Show was set here Wednesday night at a meeting of the officers and representatives from Bi-Stone towns and a central advisory committee was named to guide the destinies of the show. The show will be staged here either the last week in March or the first week in April and will come on Friday and Saturday. Named at an earlier metting as part of the advisory committee were General manager, W. M. Eubanks, Jr., County Agent T. B. Lewis of Limestone county and County Agent J. W. Richards Jr. of Freestone county. The two county agents named two men in each of the two counties, who which Eubanks, will act as the advisory committee. Lewis named as his aide in Limestone, J. W. Sellers, Jr., of Coolidge while Richards picked R. T. Kerr of Donie. A financial committe was also named at the Wednesday night meeting. It is composed of: M. W. Anderson and J. H. Nussbaum of Mexia; J. W. Sellers, Jr., of Coolidge; County Judge Lewis M. Seay of Groesbeck; Roger Seeley of Wortham; N. W. Bendy of Teague; Lee Nance of Thornton; Macon Gunter of Kosse; R. S. Gillin of Donie; J. L. Bonner of Fairfield; W. A. Parker of Fairfield and John Bounds of Tehuacana. According to Dr. C. P. McKenzie of Mexia, secretary treasurer of the organization premiums and regulations were set at the meeting. It was stipulated that all entries must be registered by Thrusday noon the week of the show in order to allow the sifting committee to examine the entries. The stock will be shown Friday and Saturday morning with an auction sale to follow Saturday afternoon. With the exception of jacks and stallions cash prizes will be awarded to seven entries in each division. -------------------------------------------------------- The Mexia Weekly Herald Newspaper June 17, 1938 Advisory Group to Investigate Finances Bi-Stone Livestock Shows Plans Going Forward Rapidly Finance committee of Bi-Stone Livestock Show decided to refer matters of finance to the advisory committee at a meeting Wednesday night at the Elks Lodge in Mexia. Dr. C. P. McKenzie, secretary treasurer, announced. The advisory committee was asked to apportion the cost of staging the show between the towns of the Bi-Stone section. The committee will report to the finance committee the amount each town should contribute to the expense of the show, and the finance committee will contact the various officals of the town to raise the money. The Bi-Stone Livestock Show will be staged in Mexia the last week in March and the first week in April. Definite dates will be announced later, it was said.
