Brooke (Ignatius Roger) Proof of Occupancy Filed Feby 26, 1896 Smith/ Clerk THE STATE OF TEXAS } COUNTY OF FREESTONE} Before me, the undersigned authority, in and for the county aforesaid, this day came and personally appeared Mrs. Sophia Trahin, a daughter of I. R. Brooke, now deceased who was a resident citizen of said county, a bona fide settler upon 160 acres of vacant public land, situated in said county, and surveyed for I. R. Brooke on the 19th day of April 1857 by B.P. Harrnet Surveyor of said county; that said I. R. Brooke occupied and improved the same as a homestead for the period of three consecutive years, beginning on the 14th day of Febry 1857; that he was then married and that applicant being a daughter and one of the heirs of said I.R. Brooke benefit of actual occupants of the public lands then existing. And also at the same time came and personally appeared J.B. Harrison and Law P. Walker, two credible resident citizens of said county, to me well known who being duly sworn, deposed and say that I. R. Brooke the person above named in this affidavit actually settled upon and cultivated as a homestead the land surveyed for him on 19th day of April 1857, by the surveyor aforesaid, for the period of three years, and they, nor either of them, have any interest in the said land.
