Freestone County, Texas Railroad History Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway / Burlington-Rock Island Railroad Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway Chartered: October 17, 1902 Headquarters: Hillsboro (1902-1906), Cleburne and Fort Worth (1906-1907), Houston (1908-1930). Stations in Freestone County, Texas: Streetman (1905-?), Kirvin (1906-?), Teague, Donie (1907-?) Reorganized on July 7, 1930 as the Burlington-Rock Island Railroad. Burlington-Rock Island Railroad Reorganized on July 7, 1930 from the Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway. 1931 Inventory: 26 locomotives, 19 passenger cars, and 346 freight cars. Started on October 1, 1936 the first streamlined passenger train in Texas, the Sam Houston Zephyr, between Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth. A second train, the Texas Rocket, was added in 1937 that served until replaced by an upgraded train in January 1945 called the Twin Star Rocket which offered service from Houston, Texas all the way to Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota. Closed Operations: March 31, 1980 Merged into Fort Worth and Denver that later merged into the Burlington Northern Railroad on December 31, 1982.
