Freestone County, Texas Towns Board Pile community The large trees along the Trinity River provided timber after a sawmill was built in the 1850s and thus the small community of Boardpile began, taking its name from the old piles of boards stacked around. The curing of boards using slow air drying takes up to year, so there was always boards in stacked being cured. Board Pile at most a few small houses and shacks scattered amongst the trees that the lumberjacks and their families lived in. Board Pile was downstream from Tyus Bluff down 2 or 3 miles. Board Pile was downstream from Tyus Bluff down 2 or 3 miles. The sawmill had folded before the 1930s. Known later on for its heaps of rotting lumber, Board Pile was favorite fishing spot for kids in the area. Today Pine Bluff, Board Pile, and Arrowhead Chapel are located in the Coffield facility of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
