Freestone County, Texas Communities Old Ghost Towns - Never had a post office: Gibson Chapel (colored) Gibson Chapel was only a quarter mile south of Cotton Gin. Gibson Chapel was located two miles west of Teague in direction of Cotton Gin. A number of churches and schools were in the area. About a half mile southeast was Tinsley school. About a half mile south was Whitings Chapel. Gibson Chapel was about a mile from the county line with Limestone County. Gibson Chapel served as a school in the 1887 for 110 African-American students. Then Gibson Chapel had an enrollment of ninety-nine in 1893 and ninety in 1903. In the 1930s the community had a school, a church, and a number of scattered dwellings. From the 1960s to the 1980s it had a church, a business, and one dwelling. Gibson Chapel is shown on a 1982 map by the U.S. Geological Survey of the Teague North Quadrangle. Go west down Highway 84 from Teague. Turn left going south at the intersection with 1366.
