Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Bessie Lee (Orand) Lackey BESSIE LEE LACKEY Bessie Lee BESSIE LEE LACKEY Bessie Lee Memorial services for Mrs. Bessie Lackey, 95, were held on Monday, June 21, 2010, at 2:00p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Hico, TX. Mrs. Lackey passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at the Fairfield Nursing & Rehab Center in Fairfield, TX. She was born on August 21, 1914 in Fairfield to Annie Lee (Renfro) and John B. Hood Orand. She married Andrew H. “Red” Lackey on March 5, 1938 and resided in Teague until moving to Hico in 1955 where she remained for fifty-three years. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Hico and was the Hico City Secretary for ten years. Mrs. Lackey was best known for the wonderful cakes she baked and gave away to show her love and appreciation for her friends & family. Mrs. Lackey returned to Fairfield in 2008 to be near her family. Mrs. Lackey was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by four sons, Andy Lackey & wife Joan of Teague, Mike Lackey & wife Alice of Streetman, Pat Lackey & wife Judy of McKinney, and Jim Lackey & wife Peggy of Mesquite. She was lovingly known as “Granny Bess” to her five grandsons, three granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lackey is also survived by one sister, Frances Collins of Houston and numerous nieces & nephews.Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church, Hico, TX. 76457.
