Lanely

Lanely is a community located east of Dew. Lanely is about 6 miles north of 
the Freestone/Leon county line and west of the Plum Creek area.  In modern 
times, Lanely is located on "farm to market" road 489.  Lanely is about a mile
south of Fulgium Hill and about a mile east of Burleson Hill. Lanely is located 
on a natural high point that serves a the source of Self Creek and Plum Creek.
Edwards Ranch was about a mile to the east and the Black Jack school was located
about two miles to the south.

Lanely had a post office from March 1, 1899 *1* with Rev. James K. Lane as 
postmaster to December 31, 1907 when James B. Roberts was postmaster.  The 
Lanely United Methodist Church is located at the intersection of FM 489 & 1848.  

Heavy oil drilling and exploration occurred in the area in 1922.  However, in 
the 1920s and 1930s Lanely only had a schoolhouse and a church left.
