Freestone County, Texas Communities Old Ghost Towns - Post Office: Moorhead Moorhead was located south of Fairfield and southeast of Cotton Gin. Moorhead has on the road from Fairfield to Centerville, Leon County, Texas. At the time Alexander C. Moorhead was requesting the post office in 1869, Samuel W. Moorhead was postmaster in Fairfield. *2* However by 1871, Sam was replaced by James King. *1* Apparently Samuel W. Moorhead did such a bad job of being postmaster that the Houston Telegraph newspaper put on its front page, the new postmaster - J. B. Buchanan's account of why he had to replace him. *3* Moorhead Post Office: 22 Mar 1869 to 14 Jun 1871 Moorhead School: Moorhead Social Organizations: Moorhead Churches: Moorhead Cemeteries: Moorhead Businesses: Known Former Moorhead Residents: Moorhead, Alexander C. On the 1st day of November I called on Samuel W. Moorhead and presented him with my authority to take possession of the office, and he turned it over to me in the afternoon of that day. Upon examination of the office I found the mail matter in a perfect state of chaos; there were about six hundred letters in the office, which had been mailed there from one to four months, and many of them broken open; some much longer, and a large amount of them scattered promisuously over the office. The mail matter which had been received here was very much in the same condition. J. B. BUCHANAN P. M. at Farifield, Texas - Ledger
