Freestone County, Texas Communities Old Ghost Towns - Never had a post office: New Zion Church New Zion Church is a traditionally African American church located in the Post Oak community south of Fairfield. New Zion Church is located about a mile south of the center of the Post Oak community. New Zion Church has a cemetery adjacent to the church building. The area is drained by Big Creek on the east and Keechi Creek on the south. New Zion Baptist Church was started by Rev. C.C. Collins from Brown Creek and Rev. Robert Smith from Sims Burrough in September 1907. Called New Zion because it was composed of members from Mt. Zion and New Hope Baptist Church. Rev. E. A. Anderson was the first pastor of the church. However, African Americans were in the area earlier because the black school at Post Oak had thirty-two students in 1893.
