Freestone County, Texas Communities Old Ghost Towns - Never had a post office: Pleasant Hill Church Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church (first known as Missionary Baptist Church) was founded in the late 1870s as an Africian-American church located about a half mile east of the community of Simsboro, northwest of Teague. Pleasant Hill Church appears on a 1918 map. The Pleasant Hill Church was half a mile east of the Simsboro community on the road between Fairfield and Simsboro. The area is the headwaters of Cottonwood Creek. Missionary Baptist Church started in the Tabernacle School building in Simsboro before land was purchased south of the school in the late 1870s. A number of other churches were in the area. Wesley Church was about a quarter mile wast. Hopewell Church was about a half mile south.
