Freestone County, Texas Communities Old Ghost Towns - Never had a post office: Pleasant Hall Pleasant Hall Baptist Church was believed founded before 1875 when the property was still owned by Mr. Blackmon. The earliest written proof is dated 1898 when three acres were given for a school, church, and cemetery. This Africian-American church located about a mile northeast of the community of Winkler on a dirt road. Slaves and former slaves were buried at a pre-Civil War cemetery called Kelly Cemetery a few miles east of the church. Kelly Cemetery was abandoned about 1890 when people began burying relatives near the Pleasant Hall church building. The old Kelley Cemetery was for the slaves of the old Blackmon Plantation. School: A school was held in the church building, but only for a short time (1905 to 1906). Church: Pleasant Hall Baptist Church (bef 1875 - current) Rebuilt structure in May 1944 under Rev. B. W.
