Freestone County, Texas Towns Post Oak #1 [There is a second Post Oak community in Freestone County located southeast of Donie.] Post Oak / Post Oak Grove The Post Oak community is still in existance. Currently Post Oak is still an unincorporated farming community located in three miles south of Fairfield on Farm Road 1580. Roughly identified as Post Oak starting about 1890. Post Oak had a general store, a barber shop, a cotton gin, and a gristmill. The Post Oak black school had thirty-two students in 1893. The area is drained by Big Creek. A brief description of Post Oak was written in the July 27, 1888 edition of the Fairfield Recorder newspaper: "...situated about four miles southeast of Fairfield, on the Fairfield and Buffalo road, whose towering heads and gnarled trunks show that they have stood the blasts of many winters, stands the picturesque little church of Post Oak." Schools: The Post Oak school was here from at least 1914 to 1928. 14 pupils (spanning all grades) in 1914. Autry Smith taught the class in 1914. Churches: Post Oak Grove Baptist church had 14 members led by J.W. Wood in 1878 had 13 members led by J.D. Williams in 1879 Post Oak Grove #1 had 33 members led by J.D. Williams in 1883 had 39 members led by W.B. Childs in 1884 had 41 members led by W.B. Childs in 1886 had 40 members led by W.B. Childs in 1887 had 49 members led by W.B. Childs in 1889 (Had 48 members in 1895 with E.J. Brown as pastor, who also had Pleasant Grove and Fairfield on his route.) Elder Chavers was one of the circuit preachers in 1889 with Post Oak on his route.
