Freestone County, Texas Communities Old Ghost Towns - Never had a post office: Wesley Chapel Wesley Chapel was an African American church located about a quarter mile east of the community of Simsboro, northwest of Teague. Wesley Chapel appears on a 1918 map. Eventually Wesley Chapel Church merged both in its congregation and even in the buildings itself with St. James United Methodist Church in Teague. When they merged, the back portion of the structure was part from the Wesley Chapel Church. Later a fellowship hall was added to St. James. A number of other churches were in the area. Pleasant Hill Church was about a quarter mile east. Hopewell Church was about a half mile south. Wesley Chapel still appeared on a 1982 map by the U.S. Geological Survey of the Teague North Quadrangle. School: Mrs. Mary L. Johnson taught this free public school in Jan. 1872.
