[Note - letter is written on embossed stationery.] Oct 29, 1877 Fairfield Texas Miss Sallie Robinson & Jennie & Betty Davidson Dear Sister and Niece I resived [received] your letter some week or more ago, but have not had time to turn round since then. But will be more puncial [punctual] hereafter. We are all well at tis time but both of the chidren have been sick. Fannie & Laura have been over in Easting [Eastern] Texas spent two weeks they enjoyed themselves very much and since they came home it is chuing wax all the time & May as big as any one but May looks like she had a chue [chew] of tobacco in her mouth But the cars like to skered [scared] May to death she never got over it [page 2] for two days after. Jetty Jones is going to start to Tennessee next week I do not know how long she intends staying. Carrie Tom has gone to Dallas to the fair. Lizzie & Sallie Bell went to Mexia last week and came home rejoicing with what they had got & seen Wirt folks are all sick the last news we go[t]. To Jannie & Billie, Your Daddy has his house up but not finished and intends to have it ready to move into by Christmas. Young Bonner is studying very hard he will be there next year with you all. They say [th]at Brice has a new pardner, Young dose the fiting & Brice the laughing. I went up the rail road last week to corlet [collect] Some taxes out of them and the conducktor [conductor] would not stop and jumped on the train and they [page 3] carried me down to Mexia But I got the taxes before I let them go. They were head strong and so was I. I have turned out all the cows but two and May have to go every evening with me to feed them. Bonner is speaking of coming down here after Christm- as and going to school. Big excite- ment here about the new rail road but I do not think it will be yet awhile. John went down to see the Dunbars Sunday and Willie is up here every week. Walter Bonner has gone back to Briant [Bryan]. Paper [Papa] started around the county to collect taxes Give my love to Hatty Young and I have something to remember her by and that [page 4] is a lock of her hair. I will never forget my stay in Due West I would like to visit it once more and see my old friends again. Where is Macie Lee now is she going to school or not. Sturds [Stewards] Mill was burned up this morning do not know how it caught a fire; there was twenty bales of cotton lorst [lost] (ten 10) of them was old Mr. Stewards the rest we have not learned.
