[Letter of Bettie Bonner, May 4, 1919, to Joel Isaac Bonner] [Envelope wanting] [p. 1] Fairfield, Texas May 4, 1919 Dearest Joel How are you? We are all right. Joel we got a telegram from John L May 1 saying he had landed safely back over here. he landed at New York & they sent him to Camp Mills & the next day we got another message from him saying he was going to Camp Dodge so guess he will be home soon. I certainly wish you were that close to home to[o]. I am so glad John L is coming home But Joel it makes me feel so bad to know you are still over there. [p. 2] But certainly hope you will be home before long. Tom & family, Paul & family have been here to day. Oliver and I went to church this evening. Judge Robertson & Watt Parker came out there working on the Victory Liberty Loan. Steward Mill district had to make up $4000. they made it, and Burnett Chapel (our) district had to make $1000 so we made it. Hunter went over and spent the night with Joe Mathews last night and he and Joe came down to church that evening. Oliver & I went to Steward Mill picnic Thurs. had a [p. 3] good dinner. Clara went to town that evening, and went on to Teague. She said she was going to stay down there a while. Our school was out Fri. and we all carried our dinner up there, and ate dinner had a picnic at school house--had a good dinner. Mr Manahan had a party for Sam Fri. night. Oliver & I went had such a good time. Joel, Sam Steen and Miss Fannie have seperated and Miss Fannie has gone to Streetman to live with her father. I heard tonight that Sidney McIlveen and Grace had seperated, but don’t know it for sure--it may be [p. 4] talk--but Sam & Miss Fannie is so. Mon. eve. May 6, 1919 We are all right this morn. All have gone to field. Mama and I are out in town to day. We came out to see Uncle Oll he has- n’t been well--and we had to pay for our Liberty Loan so had to come to see about them.
