Fairfield, Texas May 6 - 1919 My Dear Joel, I wonder how you are today, we are well and all at work. Sneed school closed last week so he is here now to help your Papa. John L. landed in New York. He first sent us a telegram then the next day he sent another saying he was sent to Camp Dodge we are expecting him at any time. Fred Carter has gone to Fort Worth. Heard George Lewis had landed, wish you, Terry Manahan, Jim Gus Carter and Jess Weaver could soon land on this side inpact all the boys but they are about all I know. John Bonner is still over there page_2 Bettie and I went to town yesterday to see Cousin Oliver he has been very sick better now. Sallie Belle was there she expect to go to Alabama the last of May Dr and Mrs Sneed[.] [I] will go with her to see Mrs Sneed people. Alice Sneed is here now on a visit the first time she been back since she married. I am writting while I am waiting for the boy to come to supper, I tell you what we will have for supper english peas (a pot full), Turnip greens, onions, mince pie[,] butter and milk, bread & meat wish you could be with us to enjoy the peas, it is the second mess we had this year. PG_3 Oliver has been helping Jim Billie yesterday & to day. We are backward with the crop. Young has to plant some corn yet. been fixing to plant out tomatoes today. Had to fix some fence to keep the hogs out the Jack patch. Wednesday May 7 - 1919 We had a nice shower this morning was needing it badly Oliver & Sneed have gone to Jim Billie's to finish plant- ing cotton and cutting sprouts. Bettie is going to iron. Bettie went with Young yesterday and got a bucket of dueberries. I will make pie for supper. Artie has canned 15 jars of berries she has been going to the field PG_4 with Millen and picking don't know if I can get any to can. Ling? bought some fish in town Saturday pared? 35 cls per lb. Sister Lizzie spent yesterday with us the first time she been here since her arm was broken. I set 15 turkey eggs to day got 20 hen eggs yesterday and the day before too. have eggs every morning for breakfast and have had since Feb. the boys don't seem to tire of them. Jerry Steward has gone to Galveston for a job, he will still stay on the waters (sea) Tom Weaver came home on a furlow he reinlisted in the Navy. like it fine. PG_5 want[s] the other boys to join. Mrs Weaver was sick all the time Tom was at home. Fannie and May Robinson went to Okla City for May to be opperated on for appendix trouble. will stay with Kate Bard.
