Most were taken prisoner and sent to Camp Douglas, Chicago, Illinois as prisoners-of-war. Many were later swapped in a prisoner exchange at City Point, Virginia. Reorganized, the unit was assigned to General Braxton Bragg's Army of Tennessee (Deshler's, J.A. Smith's, and Granbury's Brigade), and in September, 1863, consolidated with the 6th Infantry Regiment and the 15th Cavalry Regiment (dismounted). [Notes on Camp Douglas: Any Confederates that died at Camp Douglas were buried on the north side of the Chicago City Cemetery in pauper graves. Upon the closing of City Cemetery, closer to 6000 Confederate dead in coffins (based on cemetery records) were reburied in concentric circular trenches in the goverment-purchased Oak Woods Cemetery in 1867. Only 4200 of the 6000+ Confederate graves have names. Oak Woods Cemetery is located about 5 miles south of the area known as Camp Douglas. The "Confederate Mound" at Oak Woods is the largest Confederate burial ground in all the North.] First source is http://members.aol.com/SMckay1234/ Note: This is an excellent website. Look at it for more info. Second source, the US National Park Service (NPS): http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ Tends to have lots of duplicates. Note the History of Freestone County, Vol I failed to publish a roster of them. Legend - O = match.
