"The 12th Texas Cavalry, commanded by Colonel William Parsons, was recruited 
from Limestone, Freestone, Ellis, Hill, Johnson, Parker, Kaufman, Williamson, 
and Travis Counties .  The 12th had several names throughout the war.  It was 
known as the 4th Texas Dragoons, the Parson’s Dragoons, and William Parsons’ 
Cavalry (both the regiment and later the brigade).  B Company, raised by A. M. 
Maddox, was known as the Freestone Rangers, Freestone Boys, and Maddox’s Cavalry."

  To Capt. Maddux, officers and company, we return thanks for the many favors 
received during our stay, and shall ever hold themn in kind remembrance. This
company is daily receiving additions, and is now nearly full.

Capt. Maddux's company passed through this place [Corsicana] on last Saturday.
We learn that orders have been received by Col. Parsons for his regiment to 
rendezvou at Eutaw, Limestone county, on next Saturday, where an officer will
muster them into the Confederate service as cavalry, and send them to the coast 
-- probably Galveston.
