Pruitt who he and his brother Francis Marion Pruitt had enlisted at Fairfield, Freestone Co., Tx April 27, 1862 in Company D, 10th Texas Infantry organized by Capt. William C. Wilson during the Civil War. John H. Pruitt was born abt 1844 in Alabama and the he died Aug. 15, 1862 from Confederate Records reflecting Private in Company D 10th Nelsons Regiment Texas Infantry in Civil War. Died in Little Rock, Ark. Hospital of Typhoid Fever after twenty-seven (27) days of medical attention during his service in the Civil War. John H. Pruitt was the son of John Pruitt and Artemessia Pruitt. They moved to Texas before 1860 from Hancock Co., Miss. and were listed in the 1860 census of Freestone Co, Cotton Gin, Tx In 1860 census of Freestone Co, Tx, Cotton Gin Post Office, page 71 dwelling#210 listed his occupation as mill wright: John Prewitt 53 S.
