Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper - May 21, 2009 Joe David Ahlfinger Funeral services were held Saturday for Joe David Ahlfinger, 77, of Fairfield who died Wednesday, May 13, in Mexia. Mr. Ahlfinger was born in Limestone county on July 16, 1931. He later moved to Fairfield in 1974 where he was active in the community and well-known for the tamales and chili he served at events and fund-raisers. Mr. Ahlfinger was a member of Fairfield's First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star. He had served as Master of Cotton Lodge No. 154, AF & AM, and as Patron of Fairfield Chapter No. 331 O.E.S. Services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, in the chapel at Griffin- Roughton Funeral Home in Fairfield with Rev. Paul Kethley officiating. Burial with Masonic rites followed at Faulkenberry Cemetery in Groesbeck with Lyn Utsey, David Utsey, Larry David, Sam Bill Bournias, Ralph Billings, and Fred Carter serving as pallbearers. Mr. Ahlfinger is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patsy Ahlfinger of Fairfield; daughters, Paulette Thornburg of Corsicana and Patricia Breeds of Snoquelmie, Washington; sons, Perry Ahlfinger of Brighton, Colorado; Albert Ahlfinger of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Bill Andrews of Las Vegas, and Howard Andrews of Denton; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, John Ahlfinger of Tyler; and special "brother in-law," William Van Houten of Houston.
