Allen February 18, 1940 - May 12, 2012 Charles K. Allen, 72, of Teague, died Saturday, May 12, 2012 in Mexia. Mr. Allen was born February 18, 1940 in Oakwood, Texas; to parents Lou Millard and Bulah Kissick Allen. He was brother to two sisters and a brother; one half- sister and three half-brothers. At age 17 he joined the U.S. Navy; following the Navy and a short time job in a glass bottle factory he joined the U.S. Coast Guard. While a member of the Coast Guard he took advantage of every opportunity offered for special training and schools which helped him achieve four USCG Good Conduct Awards, the National Defense Service Medal and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He retired at age 42 as a Chief Petty Officer. Mr. Allen obtained a realtors license in Georgia where he also owned and operated a pecan plantation for a few years. He then went back to sea in the Merchant Marines as a navigator aboard cargo ships and traveled the world for several years. He took a teaching position in Angleton, Texas at the Brazosport Junior College where he was the professor of Oceanic and Marine Technology and retired again after five years. Mr. Allen was never afraid to reinvent himself. He finally returned to live in Teague to be close to family and where he continued to dabble in real estate until his death. Mr. Allen was a man of many names, Charles K. Allen; Chuck Allen; Uncle Chuck; Grandpa Chuck; and Daddy. He was loved by all. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Annie; one son and daughter; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and a host of friends and neighbors.
