Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder October 15, 2009 Charles Don Allen Charles Don Allen, 73, died Monday, Oct. 5 at his home in Brazoria. A time for family and friends to gather was held Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria at which time the Brazoria County VFW Honor Guard conducted a flag ceremony and presented his youngest son Paul with the folded flag. Plans at this time to bury his cremains in Fairfield are pending for November or December. Mr. Allen was born in Fairfield to Alliene and M.C. "Buddy" Allen on Dec. 30, 1935. He joined the U.S. Air Force before graduating high school and served as a member of the air police, rank of Airman 1st Class upon his honorable discharge. He married Gynne Thornton of Fairfield January 19, 1958 and to this union were born Cynthia, Leslee and Paul. The family moved in 1963 from Ft. Worth, where Mr. Allen had been stationed at Carswell A.F.B., back home to Fairfield where he and Mrs. Allen owned and operated Barber's Dry Cleaning until he joined the U.S. Merchant Marines in 1966. In 1967, the family relocated to Freeport where Mr. Allen was employed at Dow Chemical Company as an operator until his retirement in 1994. During this time, they moved to Lake Jackson and then in the early 1970s, shortly after his divorce, Mr. Allen moved several more times, finally settling in Brazoria. After his retirement, he began Collection Services, a small neighborhood business he operated until his death. Mr. Allen is survived by daughter Cynthia Lynne and husband Bob Rikard of Fairfield and their children Robert Andrew Rikard, Jonathan Isaac Rikard, Nathan James Rikard and Zachery Denton Rikard, all of Fairfield, and Benjamin Allen Rikard of Nacogdoches; Son Leslee Mark Allen and wife Jodi and their children Aaron Thornton Allen, Tyler Nicolas Allen and Sarah Elise Allen, all of San Angelo; Son Paul Denton Allen of Brazoria, cousins C.W. "Whiz" Hunter and wife Linda of Jones Creek, Texas, Nan and husband Stanley Burke of Freeport, and Daynette and husband Gary Holcomb of Angleton, and other family and friends.
