Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Corsicana Daily Sun Minnie Milner (Curry) Anderson On Friday, August 2, 2002, Minnie Milner Curry Anderson, 92, was taken gently to Heaven. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. today at Corley's Funeral Home in Corsicana with interment at Birdston's Cemetery in Streetman. Pallbearers will be Fred Shelley, Bill O'Connor, James Jackson, Walter L. Jackson, Sr., David Anderson, and Nick Anderson. Honorary pallbearer is Wesley Anderson. Born March 6, 1910 in Plainview, Texas, Minnie was the last remaining of ten children born to Thomas Jefferson and Minnie Ford Burleson Curry. She was raised in Streetman where she was very much involved in school activities. She was president of her high school class and graduated as valedictorian. Minnie had a love of sports and was even captain of her high school basketball team. In 1932, while working at the Streetman Telephone Company, she met Jeff. They fell in love and were married on December 23, 1932 in the parsonage of the First Baptist Church of Corsicana. Her husband often told the story of fording Chambers Creek in the pouring rain with his younger sister Louise in the rumble seat of his Model A Ford to reach the parsonage in time to get married. In 1935, they moved to Montgomery, Texas where they built, from the ground up, the town's first telephone exchange. A missing part of their lives was made whole when they adopted their son Gene in 1940. When they retired in 1967, they moved to Athens where they lived until 1986. They lived in Navasota and Houston from 1986-95, at which time they moved home to Corsicana. Minnie always wore a smile and had a sense of humor, especially at the game table when she was playing dominos or pitch. Throughout her life, Minnie was involved in community activities and gladly helped those less fortunate. A devout Baptist, she participated in church activities and especially enjoyed Sunday and Wednesday worship at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Corsicana. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was chosen to serve as Worthy Grand Matron. Minnie was devoted to her family and was very proud of her son. She took every opportunity to give Gene life experiences as he grew up. She continued this pattern with her three grandchildren. Going to grandma's house was a special event for Nick, David, and Susan. Many a time she took her grandchildren fishing when they came to spend the summer. One of Minnie's great joys in life was fishing and seized any opportunity to "wet a hook." Minnie's reputation as a cook was well known. She enjoyed canning the fruits and vegetables she and Jeff grew in their garden. Her pear preserves were the envy of all of her friends. Her recipes for chocolate pie and turkey stuffing are cherished by her family and have become a holiday tradition. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Robert Jefferson Anderson. Minne is survived by her son and his wife Robert E. (Gene) and Elizabeth (Betty) Ozan Anderson of Edmond, Okla.; grandson and wife Robert N. (Nick) and Lisa Hensarling Anderson, and their daughters Ashley G. and Taylor N. Anderson, of Sugarland; grandson and wife David N. and Erika Juarez Anderson, and their sons Alexander A. A. and R. D. Ian Anderson, of Houston; and granddaughter, Susan E. Anderson, of Dallas. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Corley Funeral Home.
