Mr. LeRoy Applegate, Jr. 
(September 15, 1921 - January 12, 2014) 

Visitation for Mr. LeRoy Applegate, Jr. was held on Saturday, January 18, 2014, 
from 11:00a.m. until noon at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. A service of 
remembrance was held at noon and lead by Bishop Andrew Thompson.

Mr. Applegate passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014, at his residence in Teague. 
He was born in Spring Lake, New Jersey, and grew up there. He served as a Merchant 
Marine during World War II, and afterwards worked for Marion Chatman Scott in 
Staten Island doing marine salvage work. He moved to Galveston in 1948, and 
worked for Union Carbide for some thirty years before retiring in the 1980’s. 
Mr. Applegate was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in La Porte for 
several years. He moved to Teague in 2005. Mr. Applegate was a member of the 
Mormon Faith.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mixon-Applegate of Teague; five sons, Robert 
Stewart Applegate & wife Erin of Tomball, John Howard Applegate & wife Laura of 
Fort Walton Beach, FL., Steven Royal Applegate of Beaumont, Richard Houghton 
Applegate & wife Barbara of O’Fallon, IL., and David LeRoy Applegate & wife Debra 
of Lumberton; one stepson, Donald Bruce Coryell & wife Chris of Martindale; three 
stepdaughters, Kathleen Jamieson & husband Vic of Winston-Salem, NC, Kim Ethridge 
Finley & husband John of Cotton Gin, and Cynthia Lee of Donie; eighteen 
grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives 
and friends.

Mr. Applegate was preceded in death by one stepson, Carl Lee; two brothers, and 
one sister.
