Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Corsicana Daily Sun - Sept 5, 2002 edition James H. Armstrong James H. Armstrong, 83, of Houston passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002 at his residence. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Laurel Land in the Chapel of the Chimes, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, with Dr. Carroll Marr officiating. The service will include the folding of an American flag by military honor guard to commemorate and honor Mr. Armstrong's longtime career serving the country in the U.S. Armed Forces. Mr. Armstrong was born Feb. 3, 1919 in Streetman and raised at the Corsicana State Home. He attended Emhouse High School where he graduated in 1939. In 1941, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he made the military his career until his retirement as a chief master sergeant after over 30 years of active duty service. A much-publicized photograph of him appeared in Life magazine and the Corsicana Daily Sun during a tour of duty in Burma with Merrill Marauders in the Battle of Myitkyina. [WWII] Survivors include his children, Anya Adams of Fort Worth, Lesley Armstrong and John D. Armstrong, both of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Stephanie Armstrong of Houston; stepsons, Terry Miller of Truth or Consequences, N.M. and Andrew Miller of Grants, N.M.; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
