Travis Treadway, 20, also faces a charge of failure to stop and render aid at the scene of an accident. He remained in custody at the Leon County Jail Monday evening on $125,000 in combined bonds. The accident occurred early Sunday morning, when officials say Treadway was traveling south on U.S. 79 in Leon County, near Leon High School. He is believed to have veered off the road and struck Teague resident Megan Danielle Atchley, who was standing on the shoulder. Treadway then continued driving past the scene of the accident, troopers said. "There was a car that was broken down [on the side of the road] and two other cars on the shoulder," said DPS Trooper Wade Thomas, who responded to the accident. According to Thomas, six people - including Atchley - were standing on the shoulder attempting to fix the broken-down car. Atchley was taken to the East Texas Medical Center in Fairfield and pronounced dead at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. None of the other people at the scene were injured, according to DPS reports. Treadway was arrested by a Leon County deputy about 30 minutes after the accident, when law enforcement officials noticed the model and damage to his vehicle matched witness reports. Physical evidence at the scene later was matched to Treadway's car, Thomas said. Intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle is a second-degree felony and, if convicted, Treadway could face between two and 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. =============================================== The Bryan-College Station Eagle Monday, December 11, 2006 Teague woman, 17, dies in hit-and-run Eagle Staff Report A 17-year-old Teague woman died after a hit-and-run accident early Sunday morning in Leon County, officials said.
