The Bryan - College Station Eagle April 13, 2004 edition Lucille Bennett Gibbs Austin March 31, 1916— April 8, 2004 Services for Lucille Bennett Gibbs Austin, 88, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Peaceful Rest Baptist Church in Bryan. The Rev. Charles Jefferson of Peaceful Rest Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan. Mrs. Austin died Thursday at her home. She was born in Streetman and lived in Bryan for 53 years. She was retired. She was a member of the NAACP, the Bethune Women’s Club, was on the Juneteenth Committee, served as a Brazos Valley volunteer and Democratic election official and also sang in the citywide choir. She was a member of Peaceful Rest Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmette Austin Sr., and a son, Harold L. Gibbs. Survivors include three sons, Leroy E. Gibbs of Canoga Park, Calif., James O. Gibbs of Los Angeles, and Howard E. Gibbs of Pittsburg, Calif.; five daughters and two sons-in-law, Bessie Gibbs and Evans Mason of Navasota, Juanita Gibbs Johnson of Oakland, Calif., Mary Gibbs McClain of Austin, Ethel Gibbs and Edward Batten of Springfield, Va., and Margaret Gibbs Brooks of Lancaster; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
