Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper November 27, 2008 Mrs. Vernon (Govan) Averhart Funeral services will be held this Saturday for Vernon Averhart, 79, of Fairfield who died Friday, Nov. 21, at Fairfield East Texas Medical Center. Mrs. Averhart was born in the Freestone county on July 28, 1929, to Andy Govan and Crecie Keeton. She attended schools in Fairfield and in the Hopewell Community. Mrs. Averhart worked as a cook at Lope's Cafe in downtown Fairfield for over 40 years. She was a member of Jones Chapel United Methodist Church in Fairfield and the Grace Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Teague. Services will be held at 1 p.m. this Saturday at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Elnora Nunnally officiating. Interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Fairfield with Elvin White, Mike Govan, Gary Govan, Van Durham, Michael Thomas, Alvin Godfrey, Willie Rogers, Jr., and Virgil Keeton, Jr. serving as pallbearers. Mrs. Averhart is survived by her son, Willie Roy Rogers and wife Celestine of Fort Worth; sisters, Mildred Andy and Martha Govan, both of Fairfield; granddaughter, Tina Godfrey and husband Alvin of Ovilla; grandsons, Willie Roy Rogers, Jr. and wife Serina of Atlanta, Georgia and Chris Horn and wife Trina of Dallas; and great-grandchildren, Leah Rogers, Timothy Rogers, Nathan Rogers, Peyton Godfrey, Matthew Rogers, Reilly Godfrey, Preston Godfrey and Christina Horn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andy Govan and Crecie Keeton and her husband McKinley "Regular" Averhart. Arrangements were made by Moore's Angelic Funeral Home of Teague.
