Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mrs. Eva Joyce (High) Baker The Angelic Hosts came for Mrs. Eva Joyce Baker, 81, the wife of Charlie Baker of Mexia, on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia, Texas among loving family and devoted friends. Mrs. Baker was available for public viewing Friday, April 25, 2014 at 10:00 AM in Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation with the family was from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM in the Chapel. Funeral Services were Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at Salem Missionary Baptist Church, FCR 489, Teague, Texas with Rev. E. O. Riley, Pastor, officiating. Rev. Stanley Johnson, Pastor of Grove Island African Methodist Episcopal Church, Mexia, Texas, served as the Eulogist. Interment followed at Grove Island Cemetery, Mexia, Texas. Eva Joyce High Baker was the fifth child born to Austin High, Sr. and Minnie Huckaby High on August 15, 1932 in Freestone County, Texas. She grew up in Freestone County and attended the public school there. Mrs. Baker belonged to Grove Island African Methodist Episcopal Church in Mexia, Texas. Eva Joyce married Charles (Charlie) Edward Baker, Sr. on June 28, 1952. Mrs. Baker worked for the Mexia State School as a Habitation Program Technician. She was an Officer in the Heroines of Jericho; the Chaplain of the Mexia Interdenominational Choir; a Member of the League Of Involved Women; a Church Stewardess, a Member of the Usher’s Alliance Charter; the President of the Grove Island AME Church Missionary Society; and a Charter Member of the Teague BTW Alumni. Eva Joyce was preceded in death by: her parents: Austin High and Minnie Huckaby High; and her siblings: Homer High, Elseal High Holly, and Austin High, Jr. Those left to cherish her memory most are: her husband: Charles (Charlie) Edward Baker, Sr.; her children: Maggie Maria Smith, Charles Edward Baker, Jr. and wife Rhonda, Ronald Ray Baker and wife Toni, and Adrian Baker and wife Stephanie; her grandchildren: Toby Gray, Jason Glover and wife Katie, Bryan Smith, Quiana Smith Tartt and husband Tiger, Ryan Baker, and Jared Baker; her siblings: M. D. Shaw, Collins High, Vestine High, Rose Mary High Haynes, Lois Ann High Conner, and Minnie Pearl High Gentry, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home will serve the family of Eva Baker.
