Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Homer Barger (September 21, 1915 - January 25, 2013) Homer Barger Funeral services for Mr. Homer Barger were held on Monday, January 28, 2013, at 11:00a.m. at First Baptist Church in Teague. Bro. Scott Matthews officiated. Interment followed the services at Greenwood Cemetery. Homer Barger was born on September 21, 1915, in the Cedar Community, south of Teague, to Bro. W.M. (Mitchell) & Clemmie Sartor Barger. He was the oldest of six children. Mr. Barger passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia at the age of ninety-seven. His early life was spent farming and raising cattle in Cedar. He moved to Houston in 1946 for only a few months to work as a carpenter, using the skills his father taught him. Mr. Barger then returned to Teague and became partners with his brother in the Humble Service Station. He was later an employee of the City of Teague at the water station, then worked for Freestone County Soil Conservation, later still he managed the Freestone County Farmers CO-OP, all before retiring from the U.S. Post Office after thirty-four years. Mr. Barger was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Teague and was ordained as Deacon in 1980. He was a member of the Teague Volunteer Fire Department for over forty years and served as Fire Chief in the 1970’s. Mr. Barger also served on the Teague City Council and on the Greenwood Cemetery Association Board, and was presented a plaque for twenty-five years of service to his community by the late Mayor Earl Long. He served as Secretary for the Teague Rodeo Association for many years and was still enjoying the Rodeo. Left to treasure his memory are three daughters, Nelda Childs & husband Charles of Cypress, Sue Barnhill of Bossier City, LA, and Jane Moore & husband Darrell of Teague; six grandchildren, Steve Childs, Kenneth Pevehouse, Mark Childs, Debra Bray, April Welch, and Cody Moore; twelve great-grandchildren, Emily Bray, Andrew Bray, Brittnee Ransberger, Aaron Bray, Brady Welch, Sam Childs, Mabree Moore, Adam Childs, Ben Childs, Brant Moore, Bryce Moore, and Bryleigh Welch; one sister, Opal Gibson of Chandler; three brothers, W.C. Barger of Teague, Herbert Barger & wife Bonnie of Houston, and Orval Barger & wife Ruby of Livingston; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including special friends, Jodi Watson, Marilyn Nickleberry, Lovie Whyte, and Carmen Hall. Mr. Barger was preceded in death by his wife Dorine Bulin Barger in 1973, and his wife Ruth Webb Barger in 2012, and one sister, Gracie Christian.
