Freestone County, Texas Obituaries John Dwain Barger (November 9, 1925 - July 26, 2012) John Dwain Barger U.S. Veteran Funeral services for Mr. John Dwain Barger were held on Monday, July 30, 2012, at 11:00a.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Bro. Orville Barger officiated. Interment followed the services at Cotton Gin Cemetery. Mr. Barger passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the Teague Nursing Home. He was born in Freestone County on November 9, 1925 to Emitt & Lila (Little) Barger. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Rita Chancellor on November 30, 1944 and shared over sixty-seven years together. They lived in Dallas for many years where he worked as a baker before returning to Teague to raise their family and went to work at the Teague Brick Plant until his retirement. He enjoyed the farm life and was an avid gardener. Mr. Barger was a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church in Teague for over forty-five years. He is survived by his wife, Rita Barger of Teague; one son, Brian Barger & wife Dena of Teague; one daughter, Cheryl Burks & husband Johnny of Purmeala; one grandson, Rance Burks & wife Whitlie; two step-granddaughters, Britney and Whitney; five step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lurlene Lamb of Teague and Shirley Dillon & husband Jack of Teague; other relatives and friends. Mr. Barger was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, David Barger; and one sister, Modine Carruth. The family wishes to thank the Teague Nursing Home & staff for the excellent care given to Mr. Barger.
