Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder May 20, 2010 edition James Norman Barrentine, Sr. Funeral services for Mr. James Norman Barrentine, Sr., 77, were held Friday at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Bro. Darrel Beggs officiated. Interment followed the services at Driver Cemetery with a U. S. Navy Honor Guard and Masonic Graveside Rites. Visitation was Thursday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers were James Norman Barrentine, III, Johnathan (J.T.) Barrentine, James Ray Coleman, Christopher Shawn Coleman, James (Jake) Steed, III, and Herbert Floyce Barrentine, Jr. Listed as honorary pallbearers Obituaries are Korey Smith and Matthew Paniagua. Mr. Barrentine passed away, with his family at his side, on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at the V. A. Hospital in Temple. He was born in Chester, Mississippi to Floyce and Ellen Barrentine on July 4, 1932. Mr. Barrentine served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. He married Jetty Weaver on June 28, 1953 and made his career in law enforcement, retiring as police captain of the Cleveland, Mississippi Police Department. Mr. Barrentine was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 46 years and was dual member of Cleveland Lodge #470 in Cleveland, MS and Boggy Lodge #739 in Teague. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite in Waco. He will be missed forever. Mr. Barrentine was a member of the Four Square Church in Cleveland, MS and attended First Baptist Church in Teague. He is survived by his wife of more than 56 years, Jetty Weaver Barrentine; two sons, James Norman Barrentine, Jr. and wife Ida and Herbert Floyce Barrentine and wife Dianne; two daughters, Sheila Diane Coleman and husband Henry and Kathy Annette Steed and husband Garlan, all of Teague; 11 grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; Three sisters, Ruby McKnight and husband Zelma of Gautier, MS, Betty McKnight and husband Freddie of Pascagula, MS, and Nancy Benton and husband Roy of Weatherford; Three brothers, Jimmy Barrentine and wife Allene of Hattisburg, MS, Johnny Barrentine and wife Nancy of Van Cleave, MS, and Bobby Barrentine and wife Betty of Ackerman, MS; two sister-in-laws, Mary Alice Barrentine of Benton, MS and Sue Schultz and husband Gordon of Fowler, Indiana; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Barrentine was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Billy Dean Barrentine.
