Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the Porter Chapel Home in Wortham. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Wortham with the Rev. Steven Schulte officiating. Interment will follow at Wortham Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rodney Price, Jack Price, Owen Morgan, Jeremy Morgan, Pep Batts and Eric Batts. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Craig and the Freestone County Sheriff’s Department. Michael was born May 14, 1944 in Vivian, La to Royal and Mary Margarette Batts. He moved to Wortham in 1962 and married Janis Marie Price on July 3, 1965 at the First Baptist Church in Wortham. Before retiring, Michael and his brother, David Batts, owned Batts Brothers Heating & A/C in Mexia for many years were he had numerous valued customers. He was a member of the Longbotham Lodge No. 428 in Wortham and a Reserve Officer (Master Peace Officer) for the Freestone County Sheriff’s Department. Michael was preceded in death by his parents Royal and Mary Margarette Batts. He is survived by his wife, Janis Batts of Wortham; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Mary Batts of Wortham; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Joe Peña of Killeen; grandchildren, R.J. and Maura Batts of Wortham and Joe Michael Peña of Killeen; brothers and sisters-in-law David and Judy Batts of Tehuacana and Don and Marilyn Batts of Saline, La; Sister Tammy Ruth Batts of Mexia; honorary daughter, Brandi Lawless of Wortham and numerous nieces and nephews.
