Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper March 5, 2009 Adrid (Gilliam) Bell ADRID GILLIAM BELL Funeral services were held Tuesday for Adrid Gilliam Bell, 92, who died Saturday, February, 28, in Houston. Mrs. Bell was born in Freestone County to Robert Stanley and Ida Bell Sandifer Gilliam and was the oldest of nine children. She graduated from Donie High School and Sam Houston Teacher's College. Mrs. Bell married her husband, Henry Luther, on Oct. 30, 1936. The couple shared almost 62 years of marriage before Mr. Bell's death in 1998. Mrs. Bell began teaching at Cotton Gin and Lufkin where she lived for over 40 years before retiring. Later she moved to Georgetown and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church before moving to Houston. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague with Pastor John Selle will officiate. Interment followed at Union Cemetery near Freestone. Mrs. Bell is survived by her daughter, Jane Remmert and husband Lyndal of Rockport; son, Robert Bell and wife Linda of Bellaire; grandchildren, Erik Remmert and wife Niki of San Antonio, Amy Johnstone and husband Grant of Portland, Oregon, Lucas Bell of Houston, and Natalie Bell of Bellaire; great- grandchildren, Jake Remmert of San Antonio, Ruthie Johnstone, Rachael Johnstone and James Johnstone, all of Portland, Oregon; brothers, Wade Gilliam of Colleyville, Robert Gilliam of San Angelo and Glyn Gilliam of Graham; and sister, Bobbie Huffman of Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Luther Bell; parents, Robert Stanley and Ida Bell Gilliam; brothers, Dwain Gilliam and Cloner Gilliam; and sisters Vernis Strawn and Gay Mew. Arrangements were made by Bowers of Funeral Home of Teague.
