   (s/o Seaborn and Mary (Epps) Bennett, grandson of Col. Joseph L. Bennett)
   (married Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Whetstone on 5 Jan 1871 in Freestone Co., TX.)
   [Buried at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Elkhart, Anderson Co., TX. His 
     gravestone shows Oct 22, 1849-Feb 10, 1898.  Note the gravestone is a year
     off on the death year.]

Winkler, Feb. 16, 1897
One of our old friends passed away on the night of the 10th inst. He was a good
man. His name was Joseph Bennett. He leaves a wife - a good woman loved by all 
who know her - and 10 children, some of whom are very small, to mourn his loss,
besides a great many friends. We extend our sympathy to the bereaved family. God
above knows best what to do with us. There will be a vacant chair in that family
that can never be filled again. He has two grown sons that are nice boys and 
liked by all of their associates.
