Freestone County, Texas Death Notices and Obits Mexia Daily News - Mar. 3, 2005 edition Tas Betts, Sr. WORTHAM - Funeral services for Tas Betts, Sr., 91, of Wortham, will be conducted Saturday morning at 11 o'clock in First United Methodist Church at the corner of Highway 14 and West Main Street. Officiating will be Mr. Betts' son, Tas Betts, Jr. Burial will be in Wortham Cemetery, under direction of Ross and Johnson Mortuary, 1100 East Fifth Avenue in Corsicana. Mr. Betts, who died Sunday in Parkview Regional Hospital-Mexia, was born Sept. 13, 1913, in Steward's Mill (Freestone County). He worked for the City of Wortham and later was employed with the Wortham Independent School District. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a sister. Surviving are his wife, Katie Lee Betts of Wortham; his children - Tas Betts, Jr., and wife Thelma of Mexia, Katie L. Carter and husband John of Wortham, Virginia Jackson and husband Adolphus of DeSoto, and Nathaniel Bell of Dallas; a grandson he raised, Cedric C. Betts and wife Renita of Mexia; three brothers, William Coleman and wife Audrey of Fairfield, Joseph Betts and wife Earlene of Corsicana, and Norman Betz of California; two sisters, Mary Grant and husband Edward of Winkler, and Minnie D. Cloud of Corsicana; nieces - Rexie Hillary Tyler of Los Angeles, California, Ernestine Jeffers and husband J.C. of Dallas; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Keith Betts, Jheryl Betts, Josh Owens, Norris Sandles, Demetreious Sandles and Derrick Carter. Designated as honorary pallbearers are Cedric Betts, Joseph Betts, Spencer McDonald, Dyrnny Carter, Christopher Jackson and Michael Betts.
