Freestone County, Texas Obituaries (Submitted by Mike Pruitt on 16 May 2006) Mexia Daily News Obituary notice dated March 20, 1972: [Death Date: Mar 18, 1972] Willam Allen "Al" Black Funeral services for Willam Allen (Al) Black, 74, of Mexia were held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Corley-Porter Funeral Chapel with the Rev. W.R. Dillard officiating. Burial was in Point Enterprise Cemetery. Mr. Black died Saturday at his home, 607 East Sumpter. Born March 2, 1898, in Tehuacana, he was a member of the Methodist Church and a retired carpenter. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Luli Lee Black of Mexia; two daughters, Mrs. Maggie Farris of Mexia and Mrs. Vera Mae Phillips of Lancaster; two sons, William Lee Black of Mexia and Argie Black of Waco; five brothers, John Black, Lee Black, Dee Black and Elijah Black all of Mexia, and George Black of Houston; four sisters, Mrs. Mae Kelly of Houston, Mrs.Irene Ellis of Sweeney, Mrs. Susie McDonald of Shiloh and Mrs. Cleon Campbell of Huntsville; and nine grandchildren. Pallbearers were Dr. M.I. Brager, Joe Ed Hodges, Jimmie Cotton, Bud Crawley, James Rickard, and W.A. Haley. Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Gardner, B.E. Gardner, Aubrey Franklin, Jessie Rose, Johnny Johnson, S.M. Cotton, and Bill McClure.
