Freestone County, Texas Obituaries (Submitted by Mike Pruitt on 16 May 2006) Mexia Daily News Obituary Notice dated Oct. 17, 1963: [Death date: Oct 12, 1963] Douglas Dean Black Funeral Services will be held at the First Methodist Church in Tehuacana Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock for Douglas Dean Black, 25, who was killed in an airplane crash in the mountains of Utah Saturday. The services will be conducted by the Rev. L.W. Shivers, pastor of the Tehuacana church. Burial will be in the Mexia city cemetery. Prior services will be held at Odgen, Utah, Friday. Douglas Dean, son of Mr. and Elijah Black, of Techuacana, was living at Odgen, Utah, and was employed by the Thiokol Chemical Company. He and three other men were killed in a rugged mountain area about 50 miles east of Ogden. They were searching for deer in the timber-covered Hells Canyon area. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, the former Yvonne Eileen Straud; a daughter, Yvette Leigh, 1 years old, and a brother, George Wayne Black, of Tehuacana.
