Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper April 05, 2008 edition Mrs. Algie Black Funeral services were held last weekend for Algie Black, 96, of Teague who died Wednesday, March 26, in Waco. Mrs. Black was a graduate of W.C. Stripling high school in Fort Worth and was employed for several years in the cafeterias of Dallas and Teague Independent School Districts. She was a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church for 30 years where she served in the nursery. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, at Union Cemetery with Steve Cowart officiating. Mrs. Black is survived by son Larry Black and wife Delores of Waco; daughter Shirley Hunter of Spokane, Washington; granddaughter Holly Hunter of Baltimore, Maryland; grandsons Lance Black of Pflugerville, and Jesse and Shawn Black of Waco; great grandchildren Kayla, J.J., Patrick and Heather Black; and nieces Mollie Scruggs and husband Clinton of Teague, Martha Gilliam and husband Glynn of Graham. She is preceded in death by husband Elton Black, eight brothers and one sister. Bro. Steve Cowart officiated and interment followed the services at Union Cemetery. Mrs. Black passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, in Waco, Texas. She graduated from W.C. Stripling High School in Ft. Worth and worked for the Dallas I.S.D. in the cafeteria for many years, before moving to Teague and working for the T.I.S.D. for several years in the lunchroom. Mrs. Black was a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church for thirty years and worked in the nursery for many years. She is survived by her son Larry G. Black and wife Delores of Waco; her daughter Shirley Hunter of Spokane, Washington; her granddaughter Holly Hunter of Baltimore, Maryland; her grandsons Lance Black of Pflugerville, Jesse Black and Shawn Black of Waco; her great grandchildren Kayla Black, J.J. Black, Patrick Black and Heather Black; her nieces Mollie Scruggs and husband Clinton of Teague, Martha Gilliam and husband Glynn of Graham and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Elton Black, eight brothers and one sister. Bowers Funeral Home of Teague was in charge of the arrangements.
