Freestone County, Texas Obituaries (Submitted by Mike Pruitt on 16 May 2006) Mexia Daily News - dated Dec. 5, 1966: [Death date: Dec 04, 1966] Daniel "Dan" Elbin Black Funeral services will be held at the Littlepage Funeral Home in Mart Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 for Daniel "Dan" Elbin Black, 73, who died in a nursing home at Mart Sunday evening. Mr. Black, who had a sister and five brothers living in the Mexia area, was born in Mexia on Nov. 30, 1893, and had lived in and around Mart most of his life. He had retired from farming 10 years ago and was affiliated with the Baptist church. Surviving are four sons, Buddie and Fred Black, both of Mart; Elmer Black, of Groesbeck, and J.R. Black, of Waco; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Fleming, of Houston, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Cecil McDonald, of Shiloh; Mrs. Jack Kelly, of Houston; Mrs. Chink Ellis, of Sweeney, and Mrs. Steve Campbell, of Huntsville, and six brothers, Lee, Dee, Elijah, Allen and John Black, all of Mexia and George Black, of Houston.
