Freestone County, Texas Obits Obits from Amarillo Online Newspapers - 15 July 1997 edition Clayton Ward Bond FLOMOT - Clayton Ward Bond, 87, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Flomot Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathan Mulder, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Flomot Cemetery by Myers-Long Funeral Directors. Mr. Bond was born in Freestone County and moved to West Texas when he was a teen-ager. He settled in South Plains in 1928 as a depot agent for the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad. He retired from the railroad in 1973 after 45 years of service. He married Laura Louise Haverty in 1932 at Amarillo. She died in 1973. He also was preceded in death by two daughters, Sharon Ann Bond in 1943 and Jane Adell Bond in 1958. Mr. Bond married Laura Bernice Tanner Gates in 1961 at Flomot. They moved to Flomot from South Plains in 1961. He farmed in the South Plains townsite and broke and trained horses for numerous stockmen all over West Texas. He also rebuilt pianos and provided them to families. He was a member of First Baptist Church in South Plains for 33 years and of Flomot Baptist Church for 36 years. Survivors include his wife; a son, Victor Bond of Tulsa, Okla.; a stepson, Weldon Gates of Temecula, Calif.; four half sisters, June Reglen of Houston, Charlesie Tittsworth of Wichita Falls, Elinor Dorning of Dallas and Jeannine Huckabee of Rowlett; two grandsons; three stepgranddaughters; three great-grandsons; and five step-great-grandchildren.
