Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Obituary for Bobby Ray Bonner May 31, 1930 to Aug. 5, 2016 Bobby Ray Bonner, 86, of Fairfield, died Friday, August 5, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Bonner was born May 31, 1930 in Streetman, Texas to parents John Lee and Eleanor Belle Bass Bonner. He graduated from Fairfield High School where he was the first male student to be a cheerleader for the Eagles. He served for almost four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He had the distinction of being the first single male to adopt a child in the State of California. He and his wife Mary Sue married in 1964. Mr. Bonner returned to Fairfield and Freestone County in 1995 from Waco where he had lived since 1964. “Pops” Bonner was a colorful man who had a love for life that never quit. He never met a stranger he did not like. He was beloved by so many. He was renowned for his extraordinary generosity and hospitality. “Pops” had a keen understanding of people and, in essence, was a lover of all souls. In addition, “Pops” was highly involved in mission work at home and internationally. He was a dear fellow who marched to the beat of his own drum. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Mary Sue Bonner; a son, Keith Bonner and wife Melody of San Antonio, TX; two he considered sons: David Cathey of Fairfield, Nicho Gomez, Sr. and wife Sandra of Fairfield; five grandchildren, Tara Bonner, Rebecca Crocker, John L.
