Dena was born October 22, 1934 in Venetia, Texas to Auda Mae and Willis Herren. She spent most of the first 19 years of life in Leon County. She graduated from Jewett High School in May of 1953 and seven months after she graduated she married the love of her life, Paul. In November of 1954 this sweet country girl boarded the Queen Mary passenger ship bound for France, where Paul was serving in the military. This reunion would last for the next 57 years. She enjoyed the next nine years in Los Alamos, New Mexico where she spent lots of time sledding, skiing, ice skating and go-carting with her children and Paul. In 1975 the family returned to Leon County. Now that her children were older , she wanted to work and began a 22 year career at Nucor Steel Mill as a sales credit analyst. In her retirement years she spent her time working around her house and yard, visiting friends and family and being a proud member of the Texas Baptist Men Building Organization.
