Freestone County, Texas Obituaries George Hill Bounds Jr. George Hill Bounds Jr. of Point Enterprise passed away June 15, 2014 at The Manor Health Care Residence. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 20, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church in Mexia with Rev. Michael Vestal officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Parker Memorial Park in Groesbeck. Family visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. He was born to George Hill Bounds and Ruby Johnson Bounds Feb. 26, 1935 in Wortham. He married Winda Nichols in August 1959 at Merit. George and Winda would have been married for 55 years come August of this year. George was preceded in death by his father, mother, and his brother Lee Bounds. He is survived by his wife, Winda, and sons, G.H. "Chip" Bounds III and his wife, Sandra, of Huntsville, and David E. Bounds and his wife, Tanya, of Aztec, N.M.; sisters, LaSonda Varnnum and Stacia Daniels of Waco; uncle, Blake Johnson; aunt, Dollie Foreman; grandsons, Joshua Bounds and James Bounds; granddaughters, Katie Bounds, Elizabeth Bounds, Victoria Bounds and Lacey Bounds; nephews, Tirey Varnnum and Tobin Daniels; nieces, Heather Varnnum, Fiona Varnnum and Shandra Keas; and numerous cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews and in-laws. Katie Bounds is currently on a mission trip to the Philippines. George graduated from Ysleta High School in Ysleta, and Texas Western University (currently known as the University of Texas at El Paso). He furthered his education by completing numerous Army training courses to include the Officers Advanced Course. George rose to the rank of major during his 10 years of service in the U.S. Army. He was with the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam and served in numerous locations in the United States to include Alaska. He worked for many years in the U.S. Civil Service and retired after working for 10 years for the U.S. Postal Service. George was a member of many churches over the course of his life where served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, Royal Ambassadors leader and in many other roles. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and was serving as a deacon at the time of his death. Pallbearers will be Tirey Varnnum, Tobin Daniels Sr., Tobin Daniels Jr., Mike Bolton, Dwayne Sommerville, Charles Spillars and others. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Luna, Gary McKinney, George Riddle, Ken Waldrop, Jack Yeldell, James Sandifer and the men of Temple Baptist Church.
