Freestone County, Texas Obituaries [This is Lofton Reeves Boyd b 2 Sep 1863 d 17 Sep 1917] Teague Chronicle Sep. 21, 1917 L. R. Boyd L. R. Boyd, age 54 years died at the family home at Cedar St., Monday night at 9:45 ten minutes after he had been rushed home by J. M. Paul in his automobile. Mr. Paul was about to pass Mr. Boyd when the latter requested to be taken home. The car was opened and he climbed in and requested the driver to go in a hurry as he was ill. By the time the car reached the Boyd home, Mr. Boyd was barely alive and was manifesting great suffering. He had been stricken for the past two years with abnormal blood ressure or apoplexy which produced his death. Funeral services conducted by Rev. F.W. Thomas were held at the residence at 3:30 Tues. afternoon. Interment was made at the city cemetery at 4:00 oclock pm At the request of the deceased the ceremony was simple there being no undo formality. Mr. Boyd was born in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana near Mansfield. He moved to Fairfield while quite young and later still a pharmacy and entered the drug business there He served on the board of examiners for pharmacists, held other responsibilities. In Fairfield he married Miss Mattie Richards. They and the family moved to Roff, Okla. where he was druggist, mayor of the town, newspaper publisher, at various times. About 6 years ago he and his family moved to this county and settled on the old home place 6 miles east of Teague. His home there having burned he moved to Teague and he lived in the residence now occupied by the family. He is survived by his only brother, Judge W.R. Boyd, his wife and four children. R. Boyd, Jr. of Teague, Lt. David Boyd of U.S. Army, Mrs. J.E. Watson and Miss Ritchie Boyd of Teague. David arrived too late for the funeral.
