Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mexia Daily News - Sep. 18, 2004 edition Ida Lavada (Wilson) Brown Ida Lavada Wilson Brown, age 81, passed away in Corsicana on September 16, 2004. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Methodist Church in Wortham, Texas. The Rev. Terry Colwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Wortham Cemetery among her many ancesters, family and friends. Visitation with the family will be at Porter Chapel in Wortham Saturday evening 6-8 P.M. Mrs. Brown was born March 28,1923 in Corsicana at the old Brown Hospital. Her parents were Raymond Wilson and Vada Calame. The family lived in Wortham. She graduated from the Wortham High School in May 1939 and while in High School she was a member of the Pep Squad and went to County Meet in Music Memory and Tennis. After graduation she received a scholarship to Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas. After two years there she spent one year at Trinity University in San Antonio and later graduated from East Texas State University in Commerce. She received a B.S. in Elementary Education with a Teaching Certificate. As a teacher she held certificates for Texas, Kentucky and California. On April 20,1942 in Wortham she married George Pat Brown of San Antonio. During her lifetime she and her husband lived four years in Puerto Rico, two years in Greenland and three years in Japan. In 1945 she took flying lessons in a Poterfield airplane and soloed in Alexandria, Louisana and completed all of her cross-country flights necessary to obtain the Private Pilot Certificate. At the time of her death she and her husband had been married for 62 years and were living at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village in Corsicana. They had three children Bobby Brown of Galveston, Melinda Nichols of Dripping Springs and Mark Brown of Fort Worth. They also had three grandchildren, Brooke Eyre and Calvin Eyre of Dripping Springs and Allyson Brown of Wortham. She made a profession of Faith while sitting around a camp fire during a Church overnight camp out. During her lifetime she normally attended either the Methodist or Nazarene Church, but while in Corsicana she and her husband attended The Believers Bible Church. Pallbearers will be Friends of the Family. Porter Chapel-Wortham is in charge of arrangements.
