Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mrs. Dorothy (Keeton) King Burks The Angelic Hosts came for Mrs. Dorothy King Burks, 67, on Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, Texas among loving family and devoted friends. A viewing will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM at the Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home, 406 Monroe Street, Teague, Texas 75860. Viewing will also be held Friday, August 8, 2014 from 12 Noon until 7:00 PM at Wilkirson-Hatch Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd, Waco, TX 76710. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Antioch Baptist Church, 2814 South 12th St, Waco, TX 76706. Interment will follow at Doris Miller Cemetery in Waco, Texas. Dorothy K Burks was born on August 29, 1946 in Teague, Texas to Alonzo Peterson and Lyla Keeton. She graduated from Blackshear High School in Odessa, Texas. She was a National Honor Society Member, Salutatorian and also played the clarinet in the band. She later attended Odessa College and the North Texas State University. Dorothy worked at Brazos Electric Power Cooperative in Waco, Texas for over 40 years in the Human Resources and Safety Department. Dorothy enjoyed taking trips to Houston, fishing, being outdoors and tending to her pet cats. She was preceded in death by her parents: Alonzo Peterson and Lyla Keeton; and youngest of three sons: Narayan Burks. Dorothy is survived by: two sons, Johnny Burks and wife Rochelle, Fairfield, Texas; Michael Burks and wife Nita, Houston, Texas; three grandchildren: Breanna King and husband Eddie, Autumn Burks, and Brandon Smith; two great grandchildren: Eddison and Sanyiah King; one brother: Donald Phillips and wife Teresa, Desoto, Texas; one sister: Diane Haynes and husband Elton, Odessa, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home will serve the family of Dorothy K. Burks.
