Julia Ellen Burleson

Julia Ellen Burleson, 99, of Corsicana, passed away on Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, 
at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village in Corsicana.

She was born on July 12, 1911, in Winkler, to William Bennett French and 
Elnor Mae Womack. She was a high school graduate of Winkler.

Julia married Joe E. Burleson of Birdston. Julia and Joe were the parents of 
three children, Don Burleson of Corsicana, Carol Burleson of Streetman, and 
Judy Burleson Greene of Corsicana. The family worshiped at New Hope Baptist 
Church. There were four boys, J.C. Carlton, Bennie “Sonny” and William Ellis. 
The girls were Anna Mae Knight, Julia Burleson, Mary Lee Montgomery, Elnor 
Faye Evans, Opal Lilly, and Jolita Utzman. Julia worked on the farm with her 
husband Joe in Streetman. In 1954 the family moved to Blooming Grove. Julia 
worked for Haggar Slack Factory pressing slacks. The family attended First 
Baptist Church. Bro. Rickey led both the girls to salvation during a revival 
meeting. In 1961 the family moved to Corsicana. After moving several times 
the family purchased a home in Corsicana near Community Park. Julia was a 
resident of Heritage Oaks Retirement Village. She was also a member of 
Trinity Baptist Church in Corsicana.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Burleson; son, Don Burleson; 
and five sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include her daughters, Judy Greene of Corsicana, and Carol Jock of
Streetman; granddaughters, Damara Watkins and Donna Murray both of Corsicana,
and Teresa Watkins of Fairfield; grandsons,  Lynn Hutson and Ricky Burleson 
of Corsicana, and Chris Jock of Kerens; 10 great grandchildren; four great 
great grandchildren; she is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and 
cousins.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at Corley 
Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, 
2011, at Birdston Cemetery with the Rev. Floyd Petersen officiating. 
Interment will follow in Birdston Cemetery.
