Caldwell Jr., 83, of San Angelo died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, in a local hospital. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Jerold McBride officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Jake was born March 15, 1914, on his grandfather's farm in Freestone County. He was the eldest child of Jabe A. Caldwell and Bertha Lee Caldwell. Jake claims San Angelo as his hometown since his parents moved to San Angelo when he was very young. He attended school in San Angelo including San Angelo Junior College in 1932. After finishing school, Jake went to work for his father who owned the San Angelo Paint and Wallpaper Store. In 1938, he left San Angelo to join the Kuhn Paint Co. of Houston as sales manager of the retail stores. In 1942, Jake joined the U.S. Army Air Corps until March 1946. Jake returned to the Kuhn Paint Co. and in 1950 became vice president and sales manager. In 1960, he joined the Napko Corp. as sales manager of retail stores. In 1969, Jake returned to the Kuhn Paint Co. as vice president and general sales manager, as well as vice president of the Luminal Paint Co. of Los Angeles. In 1972, Jake joined the Kelly-Moore Paint Co. of Houston as sales manager of the Houston district. He then moved to San Angelo because of his wife's health and opened the Kelly-Moore Paint Store. In 1976, Jake established the Angelo Paint Supply Co. from which he retired in 1981. Jake married Grace (Boots) Simmons in 1939, who died in 1975. In 1977, he married Edna Simmons Davidson, who died in 1994. In 1995, he married Anna Bell Wiggins. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Nancy Ostin and one granddaughter, Charri Ostin of High Springs, Fla.; one sister, Cleo Hicks of Austin; two stepsisters, Jean Beesley of San Angelo and Patsy Smith of Houston; seven stepchildren, Ann McGehee of Houston, Bill Davidson of El Paso, James Ward of Brownwood, Carlton Ward of Oklahoma City, Katrena Williams of Odessa, O.C. Ward of De Leon and Howard Ward of San Angelo. Jake was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 570 of San Angelo. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of San Angelo. Honorary pallbearers will be the Caleb Class of First Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Ward Lusk, Kenneth Slate, Harvey Cosper, Joe Schreiber, Guy White and Harold Seefeldt.
