Caldwell was born in Houston, Texas in the fall of 1936 to Buefard and Flora Caldwell. He spent his formative years in Houston graduating from Jeff Davis High School in 1955 and joining the United States Air Force that same year. After his military service he became a Petro chemical draftsman for a Houston engineering firm. Joe had a passion for life and consumed a wealth of knowledge from computers to flying, bicycling to fishing and scuba diving. Serving the Lord was of utmost importance to Joe. He was involved in his church outreach program as well as using his drafting skills to draw preliminary architectural remodel and sanctuary plans for two of them. He was a commercial pilot and in later years honed his skill with virtual computer flight simulator programs and games. He was a scuba dive instructor, traveling the world diving in as many exotic places as time would allow. He enjoyed fast sport cars and his adventures with them are the subject of many family dinner conversations. He bicycled cross country, in competition but especially loved leisure bike riding the hills around Leon County and fishing from his lake side dock. Joe considers his greatest accomplishment the joint venture with Peggy of raising two fine sons, Bobby and Kevin Caldwell. He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Peggy; their sons, Bobby & wife Gwen, Kevin, Sr. & wife Marva; three grandchildren, Christopher & wife Melissa, Kevin, Jr. & wife Laura, Casidy Brown & husband Daniel; four great-grandchildren, Kailey, Allie, Sayde and Carter; and his brother, Don Caldwell. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Buefard, his mother Flora, and his sister Carolene.
